Total Traffic Network provides many data formats and is capable of delivering traffic information over multiple distribution transports, including over-the-air broadcast, RDS-TMC (Radio Data System – Traffic Messaging Channel), HD Radio, Satellite, and Internet-connected distribution systems. RDS-TMC, and HD Radio distribution technology utilize FM side-band and digital technology. The distribution network is owned by Clear Channel Broadcasting, Inc.
  • On The Go

Our goal is to provide a traffic product that will ultimately save time, fuel resources, and alleviate roadway stress. Through a method of planning and implementing resources, analyzing results, and acting to fuse multiple traffic resources, Total Traffic Network aims to meet these goals for a positive customer experience.
  • Anytime Anywhere

Total Traffic Network’s HD-Hybrid technology is the most flexible and cost effective solution to accessing dynamic content across the country. TTN HD-Hybrid connects end-users to content through an iHeartRadio portal when HD Radio coverage is unavailable. Leveraging the bandwidth and speed of HD Radio in-market and the freedom of Internet coverage everywhere else for the best possible user experience, TTN HD-Hybrid delivers content to your device anywhere!

    • RDS-TMC (Radio Data System-Traffic Message Channel):  An analog FM traffic data service launched by Total Traffic Network in North America in 2005.  Sending Alert-C messages over FM analog sideband, end-users receive incident, event, construction, and congestion information in TMC-equipped vehicles and devices.  RDS-TMC receivers can process up to 50 traffic messages per minute.  BMW, Mini, Rolls-Royce, Aston Martin, Jaguar, Land Rover, Volvo, Mazda, TomTom, Garmin, Magellan, and others, have used or are using Total Traffic Network RDS-TMC services.

    • HD-TMC (High Definition-Traffic Message Channel):  A digital FM traffic data service launched in the U.S. by Total Traffic Network in 2007 that is capable of sending more messages at greater speeds, with more bandwidth, than similar analog services.  HD equipped vehicles and devices are capable of receiving up to 600 traffic messages per minute (12x faster than analog), and because of the additional bandwidth, can display traffic information non-congested roads covered in the network.  JVC and Cydle have launched commercial products in the U.S. with this technology.

    • HD-TPEG (High Definition-Traffic Protocol Experts Group):  A digital FM content service launched in 2009 by Total Traffic Network in the U.S., which allows for more specific traffic incident placement (TEC:  Traffic Event Compact) and the ability to transmit and receive predictive traffic information in real-time, plus 15, 30, and 45 minutes into the future based on current and historical traffic information (TFP:  Traffic Flow and Prediction).  In addition to the higher granularity traffic information, additional content services such as weather, news, sports, fuel prices, stock quotes, etc. are able to be transmitted over HD due to the additional bandwidth in the network.

    • HD-Hybrid:  The combination of HD-delivered services as a primary distribution channel for information, with a cellular distribution backup.  Information is simulcasted over HD  and to a proxy application, so an end-user can still receive traffic information and other data services when outside of an HD-broadcast area.  This hybrid service creates ubiquity of service and keep cellular IP costs at a minimum so that data charges only apply when outside of the broadcast network, as opposed to being ‘connected’ all the time.

Affiliates
TTWN traffic programming is entirely “white label.” For our affiliates, that means that traffic or weather reports come branded to their specifications. Audience members don’t know that the report is coming from TTWN – they just know they are getting the information they trust from the broadcaster they know. Total Traffic does not believe that one size fits all. We offer custom solutions across multiple platforms to meet our affiliate partners needs.

Advertisers
TTWN programming offers a unique opportunity to embed a message directly in the traffic or weather report so it is not surrounded by clutter., Research shows that audiences actively seek out this information so embedded commercials make sure an advertiser’s message is heard by the audience

The quality of TTWN's audience is very high, and our reach can’t be beat: Our audience matches the size of the Super Bowl audience – every day.

Traffic Centers
TTWN operations centers crisscross the country, offering the widest possible coverage of the country’s top metropolitan areas. Our largest competitor has one (1).

These hubs gather information from a multitude of sources – reports from our traffic helicopters and airplanes, live video from thousands of highway cameras, speed reports from highway sensors and cell-phone probe data, police and highway department bulletins, 511 “tipster” lines, construction and road-closure alerts, and many more.

Total Traffic reporters constantly track dozens of information sources and enter them into a single database, mapping trouble spots in real time.

Because traffic problems aren’t limited to rush hours, TTN operations centers are staffed around the clock, 365 days year, with dedicated professionals updating conditions throughout the day and night.
